What is a licensed sponsor?

An employer the Home Office has approved to sponsor workers from outside the UK. The official list is the Register of licensed sponsors: workers on GOV.UK.

If an employer is licensed, will it sponsor me?

Not necessarily. Many licensed employers only sponsor some roles, and the role has to meet the Skilled Worker rules on occupation and salary. Check the advert, and ask the employer if it isn't clear.

How does Rolebound decide an employer is a licensed sponsor?

Accepted Answer

We match each employer's name against the Home Office register of licensed sponsors, which we download again every week. We only count a match when the names agree once legal suffixes such as Ltd or plc are removed, or when exactly one register entry begins with the employer's name. Adverts from recruitment agencies are never marked, because an agency's licence says nothing about the employer you would work for, and we leave out adverts that say the role doesn't offer sponsorship. Matching by name isn't perfect, so check the register if it matters to you.

What do I need for a Skilled Worker visa?

In short: a job offer from a licensed sponsor, a certificate of sponsorship for an eligible occupation, and to meet the salary and English language requirements. The rules change, so check the full requirements on GOV.UK.
